About This Land is Your Land

I painted this as a commissioned first birthday present for the eldest son of two very dear friends of mine. G. is the epitome of fabulousness — how can you not be if you think to have a commission painted for your firstborn’s birthday? Her husband, A., is a *huge* fan of Woody Guthrie, an American singer-songwriter and folk musician perhaps best known for his song, “This Land is Your Land.”

You can see the New York City, the Redwood forest, Gulfstream waters, the ribbon of highway, and more, which I translated onto the canvas from Guthrie’s lyrics.
