About the Artist

view resume

MelissaAfter the September 11th attacks, Melissa needed something to help take her mind off of the chaos. She began painting using both acrylic and water colors (and later, oils), and became instantly addicted to the ability it gave her to not only express, but relax.

Melissa's work is simultaneously chic, charming, even visceral, but highly conducive to children, teenagers, adults, seniors, humble homes, designer houses and commercial facilities as well.

Moreover, people have shown a love, not just for her meticulous and vividly optimistic art, but the artist herself. In Melissa's case, her charisma cascades right into her art. Not only is her work fanciful, fun and fabulous but there are elements of Matisse, Picasso, Rousseau, and hints of the famous British Art Deco ceramic artist, Clarisse Cliffe. These innocent renderings and magical motifs belie the sophistication of Fassel Dunn's work and elegantly clever approach to her art.

Born in upstate New York and educated at State University of New York at Buffalo where she holds two BA degrees, one in English and the other in Spanish, she went on to earn her MA in applied linguistics at UMass Boston. Loving Boston and New England, and the myriad opportunities for artistic expression in the area, she gladly set down roots here. Currently employed as a Webmaster for Harvard University, she is married to Boston Attorney Peter Dunn.

In addition to painting and photography, she enjoys traveling, gardening, practicing yoga, reading, and indulging in pink champagne!

Please contact Melissa if you are interested in purchasing one of her paintings, or commissioning her to paint one for you.
